HIGA Alumni

HIGA Alumni is a biennial online conference gathering young speakers of Indigenous and minoritised languages from all around the world to connect, share knowledge and skills, and celebrate language diversity! 

The 2024 edition took place on June 28th and 29th and included presentations on: the promotion of Aymara on tiktok, new speakers of Uchinaaguchi, childraising in Mapudungun, PEN Occitan, the documentation of Soo… etc.

The 2026 edition took place on July 17th, 18th and 19th and included presentations and workshops on: at-home language nesting resources, StoryWeaver, children’s songs in Kichwa, AI and indigenous languages, Endoglossophobia, Güiquipedia (wikipedia in Estremeñu), etc.

HIGA (Hizkuntza gutxituetako gazte hiztunen topaketa) is an annual gathering of young speakers of minoritised languages. It takes places in person in Vitoria-Gasteiz (Basque country) in odd years, and online in even years. To learn more about in-person HIGA Gasteiz click here 🔗
