General information

The exam structure is as follows:

The written exam consists in: 

  • transcribing an audio file (2pts)
  • translating the audio file (2pts)
  • answering a question about the file (2pts)
  • completing a first grammar task (2pts)
  • completing a second grammar task (2pts)

The oral exam consists in:

  • greeting your professor in quechua (0.5pt)
  • answering four questions concisely (4pts)
  • asking the professor four questions (4pts)
  • saying goodbye in quechua (0.5pt)
  • demonstrating good pronunciation and fluency (1pt)

Here are some guidelines for you to score all points.

In the oral exam, make sure that

  • when answering a question, you place the evidential in the correct position
  • when asking a question, you use the suffixes corresponding to the level you’re being evaluated in

In the written exam, make sure that

  • you include the topic marker and the evidential marker when needed and/or relevant

We don’t mind spelling mistakes (alqo / allqu are both correct) except when they suggest you are confusing phonemes (alqo is correct but alko is incorrect).

Each exam (oral and written) is out of ten.
The final result is the average of both exams.

Results are usually ready between 2 to 3 weeks after the exam.
They will be uploaded into the “Academic records” section of your Qhapaq Ñan.

In case you missed…

  • the midterm exam: your final exam grade will be your final grade
  • the final exam: you will need to schedule a make-up exam to complete the course

During the written exam

  • you cannot read your notes or class material
  • (tbh the exam is too short for you to do so :))

During the oral exam

  • you cannot read your notes or class material
  • you CAN ask questions you prepared beforehand, but we highly recommend you improvise instead of memorising questions by heart

Exam prep is available for the first four questions of the oral exam only. 

Keep in mind that

  • before the oral exam, you will have to complete a written exam, and that
  • after answering the four questions below, you will also have to ask four questions yourself.


Dates and times

They take place on weeks 06 and 12 of the course respectively from noon to 1pm. 

At noon NY time:

  • join zoom
  • once on zoom, you will receive the link to the written exam
  • submit it by 12:10 (be on time!!!)
  • then, wait your turn to take your oral exam (check the “all levels” whatsapp group)

After taking your oral exam, we will do a group activity with students from all levels 🙂

They take place on weeks 01 or 02 of the course you are joining. 

At the time your exam starts:

  • join zoom
  • once on zoom, you will receive the link to the written exam
  • submit it exactly 10min later (be on time!!!)
  • then, wait your turn to take your oral exam (we will assign you a time slot once on zoom)
